Two in custody after hit-and-run crash near Broward College

Two people were detained after a hit-and-run crash near Broward College in Coconut Creek, police said.

The three occupants of a silver Acura jumped out of the car and ran away from police after crashing into a blue Toyota Camry along the 1000 block of Coconut Creek Boulevard on Thursday afternoon.

Officers caught two of men, but one got away, said Coconut Creek Police Sgt. Henry Cabrera.

The other driver, a woman in her mid-40s, was taken to Broward Health North with a leg injury, he said.

Before the crash, police were alerted that a “suspicious vehicle” was driving around the area.

When officers arrived, they saw the Acura speeding through the streets. Police followed, but “they were never in pursuit,” Cabrera said.

The school didn’t shut down during the incident, but traffic was diverted in the area throughout the afternoon, police said.
