The South Carolina lawmaker is known from his days as an activist organizing marches and sit-ins during the civil rights movement. At age 12, he was elected president of the youth chapter of his local NAACP.
“His entire life has been one of activism,” said Broward Democratic Chairman Mitch Ceasar. “I think that type of dedication resonates with Democrats.”
The dinner will be at 7 p.m. March 21 at the Marriott Hotel, 11775 Heron Bay Blvd., Coral Springs, Ceasar said. A cocktail hour starts at 6 p.m.
Tickets cost $150 each. A VIP cocktail ticket is another $125.
