Officers driving north on Coral Springs Drive noticed a flame erupting in the median and then saw that a vehicle had struck the tree, said Lt. Brad McKeone.

“Witnesses did say that they observed the vehicle traveling northbound on Coral Springs Drive at a high rate of speed, swerving in and out of traffic prior to it crossing over the median and then striking the tree,” McKeone said.

Only one person, the male driver, was inside the vehicle, he said.
