Men confront car burglar, get some items back

It was no clean getaway for a burglar at a Parkland car wash when two employees confronted him and got back some of their valuables before the thief fled.

The incident at the Rising Tide Car Wash, 7201 N. State Road 7, happened about 5 p.m. Feb. 3., when the two employees noticed someone burglarizing their cars.

Surveillance video caught the burglar inside a nearby convenience store shortly before the crime and as he left the burglarized cars with loot in his pocket, investigators said.

The two workers first noticed the man after a coworker saw him rummaging through one of their vehicles. According to an incident report, both men had left their cars unlocked.

They quickly confronted the burglar. At first, he denied getting into their cars, but then pulled out a wallet and $33 in cash from his pocket and gave it back, the report said.

The two men walked away and one of them called police. Meanwhile, they saw the man flee north behind a shopping plaza, where he jumped over a wall that connects with a residential community.

Deputies set up a perimeter, using the sheriff’s office aviation unit and K-9 units, but didn’t find the man.

When both men checked their cars, one realized the thief had gotten away with his iPhone charger and $100 in cash.

The man, who appears to be in his 20s, has short brown hair and a brown goatee, investigators said. He has a stocky frame and a large tattoo on his right arm. He wore a black tank top with the word “#TURNT” written on the front, baggy shorts and a black baseball cap.

Authorities ask that anyone with information contact Detective Todd Christie at 954-509-1453 or report an anonymous tip through Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
