The Margate-Coconut Creek Fire Rescue Department has a new fire chief.
Dan Booker, who has been interim fire chief since May, was appointed by Margate City Manager Douglas Smith and officially assumed the role as head of the fire department Monday.
“Chief Booker has proven himself to be an effective leader of the Fire Rescue Department,” Smith said in a statement. “His knowledge and expertise will continue to be an asset to the department in providing critical public safety services to the community.”
Booker, who started working in the city as a police dispatcher about 26 years ago, rose up the ranks through the fire rescue department. He has held many roles within the department, including firefighter/paramedic, rescue supervisor, lieutenant, dive team commander and planning and fire prevention division chief.
“My career with the city has been extremely rewarding,” Booker said in a statement. “From the very beginning, I have been given the opportunity to grow and help influence positive change in the fire department.”
