After a not-so-successful attempt two years ago, Coral Springs is gearing up to offer a new farmers market to people in the community.
Coral Springs Farmers’ Market, which will offer locally grown fruits and vegetables, as well as a wide variety of gourmet foods, will open at the Art Walk this Sunday. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays, twice a month.
Coral Springs Mega Green Market, which opened in 2013, fizzled out after awhile. “This is totally new and completely different from what was there earlier,” said Colleen Sullivan, market manager. “We are focused on giving Coral Springs a farmers market that it deserves.”
Sullivan has considerable experience managing farmers’ markets, including the one in Parkland. “I was market manager at the Parkland Farmers’ market for six years. I built that up from 20 vendors to about 90 when I left in 2012,” she said. “This will be a little bit smaller as we have space only for 56 vendors, but it will be as good. The location is great; I think that will add to the overall experience.”
Following the national trend of farmers markets selling prepared food offerings, the new market, too, will be primarily food based. “We will have two large produce vendors that will be selling organic and regular produce,” she said. “We will have a variety of gourmet foods.”
“Colleen did a great job with the Parkland farmers market,” said Ken Cagan of the Cagan Team, the presenting sponsor of the event. “We are confident that this will be a success as well. We are local, and we know the area; this is a part of our efforts to help people in the community. We will have some kind of activity for children at the event.”
The products will be reasonably cheap, said Sullivan. “Most of the vendors travel to different cities in the county, and they know the market. You are going to find specialty items that you are not going to find elsewhere.”
The upcoming dates for the year are Nov. 22, Dec. 13 and Dec. 27. The season will come to an end on May 22.
The Farmers’ Market will take place at Coral Springs Art Walk, 9405 NW 31st Court.
