Ex-ICE official files to change plea in child porn case

The former head ofU.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcementin South Florida, facing federal child pornography charges, has filed a request in federal court to change his plea.

Anthony V. Mangione, 51, of Parkland, was arrested in September after an investigation by the FBI andBroward Sheriff’s Office. He originally pleaded not guilty to three counts of possessing, receiving and transporting child pornography.

According to a federal court docket, Mangione filed the plea change request Tuesday, and will have a hearing July 20 in West Palm Beach.

His attorney David Howard declined to comment.

Mangione had a 27-year career with ICE and was its regional leader from July 2007 until his 2011 retirement.

Mangione was often the agent who appeared before news cameras when ICE announced arrests of people trafficking in child pornography.

He was freed on $75,000 bond in October.

The charges are punishable by up to 50 years in prison.
