Deputies seek clumsy Oakland Park beer bandits

The search is on for a couple of clumsy crooks who fumbled and stumbled with armfuls of stolen beer in Oakland Park, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

The two men entered the Sunshine Chevron gas station convenience store at 3099 W. Oakland Park Blvd. just before 5 p.m. Monday, investigators said.

Surveillance video shows each of them grabbing three 12-packs of beer and walking up to the cashier as if they were customers about to make a purchase.

They casually moved past the registers and toward the front door, but with their hands full of beer cases they were unable to open the door, the video showed.

One thief tried twice to force the door open with his shoulder but failed and slipped. He put down the beer cases and kicked open the door long enough to grab the cases and run out with his accomplice right behind, detectives said.

They continued to stumble and drop beer cases outside before jumping into a green 1996 Honda, with a Florida tag number U39-4SC, and driving away leaving one beer case behind.

Investigators urge anyone with information to call Detective Armando Hernandez at 954-202-3131, or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
